I\'m sorry that none of the Spbl-material we send out is in english/swedish, but currently we have only
This is not a problem for me personally, I have no illusions of getting material in swedish from SPBL. That should not be a priority.
* Make the sport formally recognized as a sport by finnish authorities?
This work has been going on now for couple of years, and our aim is to deliver the aplication and all the neccessary papers to the relevant ministry before the summer is over, so we would get the recognition by the end of the year. We have chosen Jari Tuukkanen to lead the committee, that\'
s responsible of the aplication, so if you have any input on that please contact him at <!-- e --><a href="mailto:jari.tuukkanen@spbl.org">jari.tuukkanen@spbl.org</a><!-- e -->Good stuff, this is needed for any grants of money from authorities.
* Report on (domestic and international) tournament results, teams and players?
If you mean report to media, then there is some improvement here to be done, because currently none of the League results have been posted anywhere on the mainstream media. We\'ll se if we can get anyone to do it this year.
The reporting itself is not the main job, the main job is to set up relationships and channels to journalists. That they get the results is one thing, but wheter they choose to actually publish them is the tough part.
* Set up a media strategy to inform print and TV media about the sport, both how it is played in Finland and what is happening internationally with the sport?
Fortunately we´ve gotten some fresh volunteers to our Federation this year, and this is definitely one of the priorities our new members will be working on. If you think you have something to contribute on this subject, please contact me so I can start assembling our workforce on this subject. We are thinkg of creating a media package to be sent to all relevant big medias, and have the package to be utilised also by our members in their own areas of operation.
Well, stuff like inviting all sports journalists to an internal "tournament" would be one thing, and at the same time show them videos from Toulouse, distribute a paintball guide etc. And after that do followups, sned out pictures etc.
* Help member teams set up a working sponsorship and media strategy in their local city?
I really don´t see this _our_ top priority, because if team want\'s media coverage and sponsorship they _can_ can get it by themselves if they are active. SPBL really does not have enough resources to help each individual team with their own sponsorship deals. You have to remember that each team knows their town/city/area much more better than anyone on SPBL, so they ofcourse can do a better job on this subject.
Ah, you misunderstood me, more like making a guide for new teams with some Do.s and Don't.s
I understand that the SPBL is run by a few enthusiasts, and that this would add to their burden, but I see it as a PRIORITY QUESTION. I don\'t need insurance, I like the thought of a finnish league but if there are other people (entrepreneurs) that want to run it let them do it and ease the burden of those in the SPBL.
League is TOP PRIORITY, because currently only thing that keeps SPBL running is the League. I\'d estimate that the interest in SPBL by our players would be like 10% of what it is now, if the league was in the hands of other organisations.
I want Juice, and Tuure, and myself, and someone else to run a set of "SPBL Certified" events, where sponsor revenues are shared between SPBL and the organizer. That would be a good basis for a set of commercial-driven professional tournament organizers. The peer-to-peer setup that we have now works, but I think the other approach would be better.
We ran a tournament with BATTERY as a sponsor that cost around 150 euro per team. If it hadn't been for the last-minute floor situation, it would have been a very good tournament. So it is possible. THANKS BATTERY!
DMZ XMAZBALL brought to you by BATTERY.
Everybody knows:
* Paintball as a sport is too expensive for most people today
* To make it more inexpensive, someone has to pay in money on top of costs of paint, equipment, travel, etc.
* To have someone sponsor tournaments, media coverage is everything. (and I am talking about real companies, not paintball manufacturers)
What is done by the finnish paintball association to:
* Make the sport formally recognized as a sport by finnish authorities?
* Report on (domestic and international) tournament results, teams and players?
* Set up a media strategy to inform print and TV media about the sport, both how it is played in Finland and what is happening internationally with the sport?
* Help member teams set up a working sponsorship and media strategy in their local city?

Our team is willing to pay our share for the SPBL to prioritize getting media attention to the sport, what about all you other teams?
If we cannot make it financially possible for paintball to grow in Finland, then (low-cost league or not) paintball will die as a sport. And that would definitively suck.
As the only organizer of an X-ball event in Finland so far, maybe I will get to pick the team if Egi can\'t raise the cash?
Hmmm... maybe if Finland can\'t get a team together, I could offer you a spot on Team Åland
But seriously, if we get sponsorships sorted out (chances are we won\'t) we will play all Millenniums. But not as DMZ. But to play X-ball I think a sponsor is needed. People are short on cash as it is.
As I see it regarding playing X-ball: If there aren\'t 12 better guys than me on location, I get to play. I guess that goes for anybody with a finnish citizenship playing Millennium this year.
What will I get if I pay the 3000? Will you get jerseys and print a big picture of me on it?
Great PR-work, Juice & co! So what is next? MTV3?
I finally got my copy of the Toulouse 2002 video today, and parts of it is definitively something that would fit into most TV-stations' programming.
Thank you everybody for showing up! I think we all had a good time, and hope to see you and others next year at New And Improved Xmazball 2003(tm).
Huge vibes of pure LOVE to the Voodoo gang (Locco, Anne, Jii, Joel, Rape and Jake) and to Egi and Tuure for a lot of Hard Honest Work (but this time not for an honest pay..)
Tomorrow we will clean the last bits of the hall... then life returns.

Uni, you know it!
I want to play x-ball! Diablo, set up something!
About tournaments: It is a risk that you get to play only a few "difficult teams" since not all teams are able to play one another. So I agree that some kind of cup system would be more useful, since you can only give fair comparative scores to those that win games and get to play semis or finals.
Another solution would be a ranking system, where you get "league" points depending on how many points you get against another team, and that those points are weighted depending on where the opposing teams are in the ranking.
So say DMZ beats Russian Legion 7-3. We get seven points * a percentage of their ranking. Our total points will then perhaps be 46..
Edit: Sami beat me to it..
I like this one:
*Would you be interested in playing an x-ball tournament in Finland?*
He wants 1200e (not negotioable) but has forgotten his password ![]()
Mankka: I suggest that Millennium points are counted and weighted into the system. But that for the national ranking, tournament wins are not as much rewarded as kicking better teams butts.
The figures mentioned are for demonstrational purpose only
About mixed groups: I suggest the system that was used in last years JoyMasters: As novice, you play 2 AM teams, 1 PRO team and the rest NOV. And similar for the other classes.
We could easily figure out a smart system and implement it in the Nordic countries. And then.. The World..
-- And the beer, that is a good start for any conversation--
I would like to see it as an alternative to the 1 Div for example. Lets say we set the ranking after this years league:
Team X 1000 pts
Team Y 900 pts
Team Z 800 pts
Now, if team DMZ beats team Y in one game, DMZ gets 50% of a percentage (let say 10) of 900 pts. (or 70% of the percentage if it is 7-man)
Points are valid 12 months or 9 or whatever, after that they dissappear.
This would mean that any tournament that is \"certified\" by SPBL or NPPL/Millennium would count into the ranking. It would also mean we could re-organize the whole league and not having the problem with moving teams up and 7-man vs 5-man. It would require a decent final round of all tournaments so that you always meet enough of the best teams (and get enough points) if you win a tournament.
I think that a ranking list is an excellent idea. Who should set up a thing like that? SPBL?
