A friend and I were talking about an interesting idea yesterday:
paintballing billboards! This sounds like 100% fun that could become a
movement in its own time. First, ALL billboards are a major league eyesore,
which is what got us thinking in the first place. They're real easy to hit,
but it's best to "hunt" in pairs. One person drives, while the other lowers
his/her window and, without sticking the equipment out of the window (to
avoid being seen), shoots as the car passes the billboard.
The idea is to fight back against the relentless, dehumanizing pounding away
that commercial advertising does to us every second of every day, have a
good time doing it, and maybe-just maybe-get a few of these monstrosities
taken down.
To be effective in sending a message, paintballers would have to be careful
to follow a few common sense guidelines. FIRST, never, ever, ever, ever
shoot at people, cars, animals, or anything else that is dangerous. It's
supremely stupid to do this kind of thing, and it could, quite rightly, land
you some very serious jail time. Don't hurt anyone or piss off the public
or be seen as a safety menace. SECOND, don't shoot at buildings or bridges,
or overpasses, or public road signs. That'd just make people think
paintballers are out of their minds and must be stopped. Road signs are not
billboards. Road signs have a purpose, and they're taxpayer-that's' you and
me-funded. Buildings are private property and provide employment, plus they
're not hurting anything. Leave the road signs and buildings alone. THIRD,
to avoid any of the first two mistakes, make sure you know how to use your
equipment! If you're a beginner, get good before going hunting.
As far as which billboards to hit, take your pick. Maybe alcohol & tobacco
pisses you off. Maybe pushing a new, meaningless sitcom does it for you.
Whatever you find obnoxious will make you feel better when it's been hit.
And, don't bypass the empty billboard, either! Remember, some advertiser
must rent that space, and if they see it's a target, they won't waste their
money on it.
All in all, using a little common sense, paintballing billboards sound like
an exciting time. Of course, it's probably illegal, and it's not my purpose
to endorse this activity, but still the thoughts come.

Been there, done that, was stupid and the year was 1992.
Kunnon pelleilyä, just tollasen sikailun takiahan painttikamojen myymien oli pannassa vähän aikaa sveduissa.
Tulee nopeat hammas-amputoinnit jos tollasta alkaa tapahtua isossa mittakaavassa. Tulee jotenkin mieleen eläinsuojelijat: Vapautetaan koe-eläin hamsterit mutta koe-eläin rotat jätetään häkkiin.
Hyvä peli
